DUSHANBE, April 30, 2013, Asia-Plus — In the framework of her first visit to Tajikistan, Minister of International Development of Finland, Ms. Heidi Hautala, has conducted a number of meetings with governmental officials of the Republic of Tajikistan as well as took part at the Conference “Equality Before the Law: Access to Justice in Central Asia, Women”s Rights: Law and Practice”.

On Monday April 29, Ms. Minister visited the UNDP Country Office in Tajikistan where she met with Mr. Alexander Zuev, UN Resident Coordinator and Mr. Norimasa Shimomura, UNDP Country Director, according to press release issued by the UNDP CO in Tajikistan.

Afterwards Ms. Heidi Hautala met with UNDP respective staff which informed her about the objectives, achievements and program results aimed at the country economic development and the welfare of the population of Tajikistan.  The project signboards placed at the UNDP Conference hall also demonstrated the main program interventions and project implementation process to Ms. Hautala.

Great interest was displayed in the project Wider Europe: Aid for Trade for Central Asia, the South Caucasus and Western CIS, implemented jointly with UNDP Bratislava Regional center and under the financial support of Finland.  Ms. Heidi Hautala actively participated in discussions focused on the future fruitful cooperation and implementation of joint projects in the area of trade and small and medium enterprise development in the Republic of Tajikistan.

Ms. Heidi Hautala is a member of the European Parliament for the Finish Greens Party and figures as Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights, which is responsible for foreign policy of the European Parliament on this issue. She believes in the possibility to promote human rights and transparent political activity as well as in the growth of ecological accountability and global justice.
