DUSHANBE, May 26, 2013, Asia-Plus – The Coalition for Democracy and Civil Society has been established in Tajikistan.
A statement released by the Coalition notes that establishment of the Coalition is conditioned by the fact that “Tajik democracy and civil society are in danger.”
Under the conditions of authoritarianism, civil society does not have an opportunity to directly participate in management of affairs of the state and the society, the statement notes.
The statement authors say that for the purpose of providing participation of people in public management and providing development of democracy and civil society in the country they have decided to establish the Coalition for Democracy and Civil Society.
The Coalition is reportedly open to all public associations and other institutions of civil society as well as individual citizens.
During discussions that took place on May 25, Mahmadali Hayit, the deputy chairman of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP), proposed to set up the Committee for Protection of Constitutional Rights of Zayd Saidov at the Coalition. The Committee consists of 13 persons, including all members of the Initiative Group for formation the New Tajikistan party.
The Coalition Board members include Mr. Rahmatillo Zoirov, the leader of the Social-Democratic Party of Tajikistan (SDPT), Mr. Mahmadali Hayit, the deputy head of the IRP, Mr. Mahmoudjon Qosimov, representative of the Initiative Group for formation the New Tajikistan party, Mr. Abdughani Mahmadazimov, Head of the Association of Political Scientists of Tajikistan, Mr. Shodavlat Shonusayriyev, the member of the SDPT Political Council, Mr. Nouriddin Qarshiboyev, the head of the National Association of Independent Media of Tajikistan (Nansmit), Ms. Ramziya Mirzobekova, a journalist, Mr. Odina Rizoyev, the father of prison inmate Mahmurod Rizoyev, and Qirgizbek Qonunov, as representative of the youth.
