DUSHANBE, June 26, 2013, Asia-Plus – On Tuesday June 25, Tajik Deputy Foreign Minister, Nizomiddin Zohidov met here with outgoing Resident Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Tajikistan Jiro Iida, whose tenure to Tajikistan ended, and newly appointed JICA Resident Representative in Tajikistan Kazuya Sueta.

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and JICA.  Tajik official reportedly expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Tajikistan and JICA.

In the course of the talks, Zohidov reportedly appreciated JICA’s support for enhancement of Tajikistan’s agrarian, transportation and health sectors and confirmed the Tajik side’s readiness to expand cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

At the end of the meeting, Zohidov expressed gratitude to Mr. Jiro Iida for his considerable contribution to expansion of cooperation and wished all the best to Mr. Kazuya Sueta with his new job as Resident Representative of JICA in Tajikistan.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency is an independent governmental agency that coordinates official development assistance (ODA) for the government of Japan. It is chartered with assisting economic and social growth in developing countries, and the promotion of international cooperation.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) started providing technical assistance to Tajikistan in 1991, and Representative Office of JICA in Tajikistan was established in 2006.
