DUSHANBE, September 24, 2008, Asia-Plus — Nobody should be persecuted in Tajikistan for his/her political beliefs, Tajik political scientist Sayfullo Safarov said in an interview with Asia-Plus commenting on the fact of institution of criminal proceedings against Dodojon Atovulloyev, the editor-in-chief of a Moscow-based Tajik opposition newspaper

However, Safarov is strongly critical of methods of struggle used by Atovulloyev, meaning his public statements, which are, in his opinion, insulting.
According to him, one of the main shortcomings of Atovulloyev is his stubbornness. “He always attempts to gain his ends by any means, even not quite fair,” the expert said.
He further added that Atovulloyev does not have any serious influence on public opinion in Tajikistan.
