KULOB, September 23, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Farming units in Khatlon’s Vose district have reached 53.6 percent of this year’s cotton target, having yielded 12,239 tons of raw cotton by September 22, Abdullo Rajabov, a lead specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.  

According to him, cotton farmers in the Danghara are expected to reach 50 percent of the target today.  They have yielded 3,044 tons of cotton by September 22, which is 49.09 percent of their target.  

“The Kulob cotton farmers have to yield another 218 tons to reach 50 percent of their target,” the lead specialist said.  

In the meantime, serious situation has been reported in the Hamadoni and Farkhor districts, which have reached only 26.18 percent and 37.83 percent of their targets respectively.  Rajabov expressed hope that assistance of students that will be sent to cotton plantation starting from September 24 will improve the situation.  

In all, Khatlon’s Kulob region, which has five cotton-growing districts, has yielded 33,480 tons of raw cotton by September 22, which comprises 42.19 percent of this year’s target that has been determined at 79,350 tons, Rajabov said.
