DUSHANBE, September 22, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Kazakh specialists have completed a geological survey on the site for construction of the Nourobod hydroelectric power station (HPP) that will be built on the Khingob River in eastern Tajikistan under financial support of Kazakhstan, according to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI).

The source at a MoEI said that a group of Kazakh specialists will arrive in Tajikistan within the next few days to conduct feasibility study for construction of the Nourobod HPP, which should be submitted for consideration by the end of this year.

Kazakhstan will implement the Nourobod hydroelectricity project on the basis of a “build-operate-transfer” (BOT) approach.  The project that is implemented by Kazakhstan’s ASPMK-519 is funded by Kazakhstan’s Sustainable Development Fund Kazyna, the source said.

The Nourobod HPP will have capacity of 160 megawatt and will generate some 1 billion kWh of electrical power per year.  An estimated budget for construction of this station is some $150 million.
