DUSHANBE, October 10, 2013, Asia-Plus — A group of the CIS long-term observers are arriving in Dushanbe today evening to observe the 2013 presidential election in Tajikistan that is scheduled for November 6.
According to the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) of Tajikistan, the CIS election mission is led by Vladimir Garkun, the first deputy head of the CIS Executive Committee.
More than 700 international observers are expected to monitor the 2013 presidential election in Tajikistan.
The CCER’s office head Abdumannon Dodoyev says observers from the OSCE, CIS, SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and diplomatic missions active in the country are expected to monitor the upcoming presidential election in Tajikistan.
We will recall that the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) formally opened the election observation mission for the 2013 presidential election on October.
Ambassador Paraschiva Badescu, the Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, told journalists on October 2 noted that following an invitation from the Government of Tajikistan, the OSCE/ODIHR is conducting its fifth election observation mission in the country.
According to her, in addition to a core team of experts numbering 13 persons, 16 long-term observers will be deployed throughout the country and 150 short-term observers will be deployed immediately prior to the November 6 election. International experts and observers from 22 OSCE participating States will arrive in Tajikistan.
