DUSHANBE, October 10, 2013, Asia-Plus – On Thursday October 10, a ceremony of an official opening of the regional tuberculosis hospital took place in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
The ceremony was attended by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, GBAO Governor Qodir Qosim, the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan Alexander Zuyev, the Minister of Health of Tajikistan Nusratullo Salimov, as well as representatives of various regional bodies and international partners.
According to press release issued by the UNDP Country Office in Tajikistan, the hospital with 45 beds, including 10 beds for children, has the dispensary department, the department for treatment of patients with stable forms of TB, storage facilities, nutrition unit, laundry and other subsidiary facilities.
The hospital’s lab is provided with the state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment.
More than 100 work with the hospital, including physicians, nurses and laboratory assistants.
The hospital has been built under support of the UNDP, due to funds provided by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. A total cost of the project is more than 2 million U.S. dollars.
