DUSHANBE, November 7, 2013, Asia-Plus — Deputies of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have unanimously endorsed a bill on the fight against organized crime.
A regular sitting of the fifth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on November 7.
Speaking at the meeting, the First Deputy Minister of Justice, Abdumannon Kholiqov, noted that “globalization has brought new challenges and threats along with opportunities and achievements.”
“Organized crime is acquiring a transnational character and the total organize crime income could be over 500 billion USD,” said Kholiqov. “In pursuance of implementation of Tajikistan’s national program for combating organized crime the government has draft the law on the fight against organized crime.”
This draft law reportedly provides for measures to prevent organize crime in Tajikistan and coordination of efforts of relevant ministries and agencies engaged in combating organized crime.
