KHUJAND, August 29, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Local authorities of the Sughd province are providing assistance to veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 living in northern Tajikistan.   

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Ms. Muqadam Husainova, an official with the Sughd health directorate, said that 11 war veterans were provided with hearing aids and three ware veterans had been provided with wheelchairs.  Besides, 42 veterans have had a denture made free of charge.   

Allowances allocated for war veterans mainly go to paying medicines.  “3,000 somonis are allocated per month for these purposes,” said Husainova.  “Over the first six months of this year, more than 62,000 somonis have been allocated for providing war veterans with medicines.  The funds are provided both from the regional and the city budgets.”   

She added that 390 veterans and 843 invalids of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 are currently under medical supervision in the province.
