The residents of Tajikistan will celebrate the holy holiday of Idi Qurbon (Eid al-Adha) at the end of May this year. According to the chairman of the Council of Scholars of the Islamic Center of Tajikistantan Saidmukarram Abdulqodirzoda (Tajikistan’s Grand Mufti), preliminary calculations indicate that Eid al-Adha will fall on May 27 this year.

The Mufti noted in a conversation with Asia-Plus that this date is not yet final. Traditionally, the exact day of the holiday is determined based on the observation of the moon and the conclusion of the Institute of Astrophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.

Eid al-Adha is celebrated annually on the 10th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah (according to the lunar calendar). This day usually comes 70 days after the holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

In Tajikistan, Eid al-Adha is celebrated officially: on this day, the country’s residents will have a day off.

Early in the morning, a festive prayer is performed in all congregational mosques. Religious figures in their sermons call on people to peace and unity, respect for elders, and support for those in need.

Wealthy and affluent people, according to Sharia norms, perform the sacrifice of livestock (sheep, cows, or camels). The meat of the sacrificial animal is divided into three parts: one part for the family, the second for relatives, and the third is necessarily distributed to those in need and orphans.

After the prayer, citizens visit cemeteries, recite prayers, and the Surah “Al-Fatiha” for the repose of their deceased ancestors.

In some regions, a festive table is set, and the doors of homes are opened to guests.

One of the most important components of this holiday is helping the poor. Kind-hearted people during these days help needy families not only with the meat of the sacrificial animal but also with clothing, food, or cash, so that everyone can feel the joy of the holiday.
