DUSHANBE, May 6, 2014, Asia-Plus — The cotton-sowing campaign is nearing completion in the south of Tajikistan (Khatlon province).

“By May 4, farmers in Khatlon province have planted cotton on 119,600 hectares, which is 90.5 percent of their cotton sowing target; meanwhile, Shahritous and Sarband district have already fulfilled their cotton-sowing targets,” an official source at the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) told Asia-Plus in an interview.

This year, Khatlon province has reportedly allocated 132,400 hectares to cotton cultivation. 

Cotton growers in Sughd province have reached 81.9 percent of their cotton-sowing plant; their cotton sowing target for this year has been determined at 60,000 hectares.

Cotton growers in districts subordinate to the center (central Tajikistan) have reached 68.3 percent of their cotton-sowing plant; their cotton sowing target for this year has been determined at 7,251 hectares.

The country has reportedly achieved 87.1 percent of the cotton sowing target by May 4.  This year’s cotton sowing target has been determined at 199,451 hectares.
