Tajik NGO attends international conference on the labor migration regulation issues

KULOB, July 22, 2008, Asia-Plus  — An international two-day conference formally titled “Role of NGOs in Regulation of External Labor Migration in Russia and Central Asia” is concluding in Kazakh, Russia’s Tatarstan Republic today.  

The Kulob Civil Society Support Center, Shahrvand, is participating at the conference, staged by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Tatarstan’s Foundation of Social-Legal Assistance to National-Cultural Organizations and Migrants, Sodeystviye (Assistance).   

The Shahrvand director Dodarbek Saydaliyev said that the conference participants include representatives of NGOs from Central Asia and the Russian Federation working with labor migrants.   

“The conference has considered issues related to working out a general strategy of interaction between NGOs and the law enforcement agencies in countering illegal migration,” Saydaliyev said, noting that the conference has also discussed creation of an efficient mechanism of regulation of labor migration in territories of the Russian Federation and Central Asia, development of methods of interaction between NGOs and central and local authorities as well as role of diasporas in commercial and non-commercial spheres of migration and integration of labor migrants.
