DUSHANBE, August 4, 2014, Asia-Plus — Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev held a special meeting on August 3 to discuss preparations for a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) that is scheduled to take place in the Tajik capital on September 11-12 this year and the 90th anniversary of the founding of Dushanbe.
“According to a decision made at the meeting, voluntary works on improvement of the city will be carried out on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with involvement of the public beginning on August 5,” Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office, told Asia-Plus in an interview today.
Besides, the meeting also made a decision on renaming a number of streets and educational institutions in the city. “Thus, the Molodaya Gvardiya Street was renamed the Rustam Karimov Street, the Krupskaya Street was renamed Ashour Safar Street, School No 35 was named after known Tajik statesman and researcher Rustam Yusufbekov, Lyceum No 1 was named after Niyoz Safar, School No 72 was named after Tajik poetess Gulchehra Sulaymonova, School No 87 was named after Tajik writer Shodi Hanif, and School No 97 was named after ex-Deputy Mayor of Dushanbe Abdulhaq Oyev,” the spokesman said.
