DUSHANBE, July 5, 2008, Asia-Plus — Kazakhstan is interested in participation in investment projects in Tajikistan, including completion of construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power station (HPS), the newly appointed Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Abutalip Akhmetov announced at a press conference in Dushanbe on July 4.
“Kazakhstan is interested in participation in the Roghun hydroelectricity project, but it is still difficult to say what the volume of participation of Kazakhstan’s economy and business will be in this project,” Kazakh envoy said.
According to him, interest of Kazakh businesspeople in Tajikistan’s economy increased lately. “Kazakh companies are already working in Tajikistan and they intend to expand their operations here,” Akhmetov said, noting that some Kazakh companies are currently considering the possibility of purchasing out-of-service enterprises in Dushanbe in order to reintroduce them into operation.
