DUSHANBE, October 30, 2014, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today received Vice-Minister of Public Security of China, Man Hunwei (phonetically spelled).

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the sides discussed issues related to bilateral security cooperation between Tajikistan and China and expansion of cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

A special attention was reportedly paid to cooperation in countering terrorism, extremism and trafficking in drugs and weapons.

They also discussed a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest, including strengthening of the Tajik-Afghan border, the website said.    

The Ministry of Public Security of the People”s Republic of China (MPS) is the principal police and security authority of the mainland of the People”s Republic of China and the government agency that exercises oversight over and is ultimately responsible for day-to-day law enforcement. As the main domestic security agency in the People”s Republic of China, the MPS is the equivalent of the National Police Agency in Japan or national police in other countries.  It also controls and administers the People”s Armed Police.
