DUSHANBE, November 17, 2014, Asia-Plus — Dushanbe resident Azam Saydaliyev, 28, was detained here with a large amount of MDMA tablets on November 16, according to the Interior Ministry’s official website.

65 MDMA tablets were reportedly confiscated from him.

On the same day, Afghan national Habib waladi Abdurahman was detained in Khatlon’s Shouroobod district on suspicion of drug trafficking.  Some 17 kilograms of cannabis were confiscated from him.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against both alleged drug peddlers and an investigation is underway, the source said

MDMA (contracted from 3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine) is a neurotoxic and emathogenic drug of the phenethylamine and amphetamine classes of drugs.  MDMA has become widely known as “ecstasy” (shortened to “E”, “X”, or “XTC”), usually referring to its street form, although this term may also include the presence of possible adulterants.

MDMA reportedly increases a sense of intimacy and diminishes anxiety with others which can induce euphoria and mild psychedelia.   Possession of MDMA is illegal in most countries.
