KULOB, June 30, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Khatlon’s Shuroobod district launched a grain-harvesting campaign at the end of last week. 

According to Abdullo Rajabov, a chief specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, the Shuroobod grain growers have harvested grains from an area of 625 hectares manually by June 28.

Shuroobod is the seventh of ten districts in Khatlon’s Kulob region to start the grain-harvesting campaign.  

“In all, grain-growing districts of the Kulob region have mowed wheat from an area of totaling 19,938 hectares by June 28,” said the chief specialist, “Trashing yields from 18,432 hectares have amounted to 34,200 tons wheat, and average wheat yields have amounted to 1.8 tons per hectare, which is 0.2 ton more than in the same period of last year.”    

            Hamadoni has reported harvests up to 2.4 tons/ha, Temourmalik – 2.21 tons/ha, and Farkhor – 2.2 tons/ha, Rajabov said.   

This year, grain growers in the Kulob region have planted wheat on an area of totaling 80,612 hectares and are expected to yield at least 141,063 tons of grains.
