Tajik ruling party sets up its regional pre-election campaign staff in Khatlon

DUSHANBE December 23, 2014, Asia-Plus – The Tajik ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly set up its regional pre-election campaign staff in Khatlon province.

“An enlarged meeting of PDP’s organization for Khatlon was held in Qurghon Teppa on December 23,” said Usmon Soliyev, the head of the PDP public relations department.  “The deputy head of the party, Asror Latifzoda attended the meeting and the party’s regional pre-election campaign staff fo Khatlon was set up at the meeting.”

The meeting also endorsed the schedule of conferences on nominating candidates that will run for the lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of the parliament in single-mandate constituencies.

“Within the next few days, the party pre-election campaign staffs will be set up in all regions of the country,” Soliyev noted.

We will recall that newly elected first deputy chairman of the PDP, Saidmurod Fattohzoda, has headed PDP’s central pre-election campaign staff.

Founded in 1994, the People’s Democratic Party is the largest political party in Tajikistan, boasting some 250,000 registered members.  President Emomali Rahmon is chairman of the party.

At the legislative elections, February 27 and March 13, 2005, the party won 74% of the popular vote and 52 out of 63 seats.  This was an increase from the 2000 elections, in which they won 64.9% of the vote and 38 seats.  At the last legislative elections, February 28, 2010, the party won 71.69% of the popular vote and 45 out of 63 seats.
