Another two Tajiks killed in apparently racial attack in Moscow

DUSHANBE, May 7, Asia-Plus – Another two Tajik nationals have been found murdered in Moscow.

Muhammad Egamzod, press secretary of the Tajik Embassy in Moscow, said that the bodies of two Tajiks with brain injures were found on the Kharkovsky Proyezd, southern Moscow, Sunday morning.

“The killed have not yet been identified,” said Egamzod, “identification document was found in the pocket of one the murdered but we cannot say with confidence whether it is his document or not.”

“Moscow law enforcement authorities are considering several versions of the incident and according to one of the versions, the Tajiks were killed in n apparently racially motivated attack,” Egamzod said, noting that two persons were arrested on suspicion of having been involved in that crime.

Russia’s RIA Novosti said that Russian and foreign human rights groups have raised concerns over growing xenophobic sentiments in the country in recent years.   According to RIA Novosti, people with non-Slavic features have repeatedly been attacked in apparently racially motivated crimes in Moscow, St. Petersburg and in many cases in the Central Russian city of Voronezh, home to many universities with foreign students.

In the meantime, Shodmonbek Rajabov, the chief of the Tajik transportation police staff, told Asia-Plus that Tajikistan has received the bodies of 125 of its citizens from Russia since the beginning of the year.  Twenty-five of then were killed, according to him.
