DUSHANBE, June 17, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan brings an initiative to set up International Anti-Drug Center on combating drug trafficking and drug production in Afghanistan.
Speaking at the International Conference in Support for Afghanistan in Paris, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrohon Zarifi appealed to international community to be firm and steady in fight against terrorism, organized and transnational crime receiving money from drug production and drug trafficking.
“It is necessary to strengthen regional cooperation by means of information and experience exchange to fight against illicit drug trafficking,” said the minister. “In this context Tajikistan supports international efforts and proposes to set up International Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe.
Development and implementation of program on sowing alternative agricultural plants can be the main factor in full liquidation of drug production, Mr. Zarifi said.
He also emphasized the necessity of active participation of international community in forming and training the national army, police and other law enforcement agencies for providing peace and stability in Afghanistan. It is necessary to pay much attention to socio-economic development in Afghanistan with attracting donor-countries and international organizations to finance agricultural, energy, construction and other sectors in Afghanistan, he said.
Tajik FM noted that Tajikistan supports National Strategy on Development adopted in Afghanistan and hopes that international community will greatly contribute to it.
Donor-countries obliged themselves to give about US$21.5 billion to Afghanistan, the Tajik MFA told CA-News.
