The Government of Japan to commence new projects in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, February 5, 2015, Asia-Plus — A joint signing ceremony for three new projects was held at the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe on February 4. The contracts were signed between Mr. Takashi Kamada, Ambassador of Japan to Tajikistan, and the representatives of the three beneficiary organizations.

According to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, the three new projects, funded fully under the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), are:

“The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment to Urology Department of Regional Hospital in Ghulakandoz Jamoat, Jabborrasoulov District” signed with Mr. Sanginmurod Hakimzoda, Chairperson of Jabborrasoulov District, for the amount of US$98,521.

“The Project for the Construction of Women’s Center in Panjakent City” signed with Ms. Fatima Sharipova, Director of Public Organization “Zanoni Sharq”, for the amount of US$100,340.

“The Project for the Improvement of Irrigation System in Qarasoy and Qashot Villages, Qashot Jamoat, Jirgatol District” signed with Mr. Umedkhoja Zoir, Chairperson of Jirgatol District, for the amount of US$114,756.

During the ceremony, Mr. Kamada made remarks that Japan’s GGP projects have been able to contribute to the sustainable development of the Republic of Tajikistan through various projects implemented all across the country. In particular with the 3 projects signed today, conditions of the health sector, social sector concerning women and agricultural sector will be improved in Panjakent City, Jabborrasoulov and Jirgatol Districts.

Mr. Kamada further stated: “These projects play a pivotal role in strengthening the bilateral partnership between the Republic of Tajikistan and Japan; and alongside, I hope that the friendship between the two countries continues to grow.”

Upon signing the grant contracts, the representatives of each beneficiary organization extended their words of gratitude to the Government and people of Japan, and promised successful completion of the projects.

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support for creating a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. As of today, GGP has supported 340 projects in Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 27.5 million has been provided since 1996.
