DUSHANBE, February 24, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajik authorities are taking efforts to free Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region from a snow captivity.

Khorog is currently cut off from other part of the country due to recent heavy snowfalls, an official source at the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of Tajikistan (CES) told Asia-Plus today morning.

According to him, road workers are currently clearing the roads connecting Khorog with Dushanbe as well as Ishkashim and Murgab districts of snow.

The source expressed confidence that traffic along the mentioned roads will be restored during this day.

We will recall that heavy snowfalls on February 21-22 caused a series of avalanches in the region that block in several places the main highways from Khorog to Dushanbe, from Khorog to Ishkashim, and from Khorog to Murgab.
