DUSHANBE, July 17, 2015, Asia-Plus – Speaking at a news conference in Dushanbe, U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Susan M. Elliott noted on July 16 that providing equal opportunities for activities of all political parties functioning in Tajikistan is guarantee of peace and stability in the country.

Asked about the U.S. Embassy’s position on the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRP) and its leader Muhiddin Kabiri, Ambassador Elliott said that she knows Muhiddin Kabiri well and hopes for his speedy return to Tajikistan.

We will recall that IRP leader Muhiddin Kabiri fears returning home and his is currently living in Istanbul.

Ambassador Elliott noted that all political parties officially functioning in Tajikistan should have equal opportunities and people could participate in activities of parties.  “That is the problem we always raise at meetings with representatives of the Tajik authorities.  We always say that the main guarantee of stability in Tajikistan is to give every person a chance to have the right of freedom of religion and to participate in activities of political parties,” U.S. diplomat noted.

According to her, the authorities must give the IRP an opportunity to implement its activities in the future as well.  “Only this may provide peace and stability in the country.  This concerns not only the Islamic Revival Party but also other political parties functioning in Tajikistan,” Ambassador Elliott noted.
