The seasonal decline of labor migration to Russia from Central Asia takes sustainable character

Date:

The Federal Migration Service of Russia (FMS) has published the latest figures (for August 27, 2015) the number of foreign nationals who arrive in the country.

According to the statistics of Federal Migration Service, currently in the Russian Federation there are 2,095,234 citizen from Uzbekistan (including 1,710,610 men and 384,624 women), 693,782 citizen from Kazakhstan (including 404,534 men and 289,259 women), 513,917 citizens from Kyrgyzstan (311.334 men and 202,583 women), 978,940 Tajik citizens (821.491 men and 157,449 women) and 20,225 citizens from Turkmenistan (12.520 men and 7,705 women).

Comparing the data at the end of August 2015 with the statistics of the FMS beginning from this month, may be noted the decline in the number of citizens from the countries of Central Asia, which are the main donors of labor force of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Also has decreased the number of citizens from Kazakhstan.  Slightly increased the number of citizens from Turkmenistan. So, at the beginning of August there were 2,125,943 citizen of Uzbekistan, 701,133 citizen of Kazakhstan, 518,993Kyrgyz citizen, 985,416 – Tajik and 19,202 – Turkmen citizens in Russian.

In total, at the end of August there were 4,302,098 citizens of the Central Asian republics (at the beginning of August – 4,350,687) in Russia. Thus, the total number of visitors from Central Asia to Russia at the end of August in comparison with the beginning of the month slightly declined.

Professor at the European University in St. Petersburg Sergei Abashin connects the slight decrease in the number of labor migrants from Central Asia with seasonal factors, and partly with the devaluation of the ruble.

The expert has also pointed out that the August statistics the FMS has released 7-8 days earlier than usual.
