2.0-magnitude quake jolts Tajik capital today morning

DUSHANBE, August 8, Asia-Plus — An earthquake measuring 2.0 on the 12-point-scale jolted Dushanbe today morning, at 5:37 a.m., Asia-plus has learned at the Dushanbe seismological station.

The source at the Dushanbe seismological station said that the quake was centered on the Tajik-Afghan border, 290 kilometers southeast of Dushanbe.  The tremor’s magnitude in the epicenter was nearly 4.0.  The tremor could be felt in some other areas of Tajikistan as well.

The latest quake measuring 2.0 on the 12-point scale was reported in Dushanbe Monday night, at around 11:00 p.m.  The 3.5 magnitude quake was centered in the Hissor district, some 17 kilometers southeast of the Tajik capital.

As it had been reported earlier, the tremor measuring 6.0 on the 12-point scale hit a number of villages in the Rasht district, some 175 kilometers northeast of Dushanbe, on July 22, at around 03:344 a.m., killing 3 boys from one family.  More than 100 residential buildings were destroyed completely by the disaster.
