DUSHANBE, April 22, Asia-Plus  — The Government of India plans to provide grant for modernization of the Varzob-2 hydropower station in Tajikistan, Samandar Boboyev, the first deputy head of Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding, announced at a press conference in Dushanbe today.    

According to him, negotiations that were recently conducted with representatives of the Indian Embassy in Dushanbe were successful.  The preliminary amount of a grant to be provided for this project is some $7 million, Boboyev said.  

14.76 MW Varzob-2 is one of three power plants of the Varzob Cascade (a total of more than 26 MW).  Varzob Cascade hydropower stations also include also Varzob-1 (3.5 MW) and Varzob-3 (3.52 MW), which also need to be rehabilitated to increase utilization and efficiency.
