Chinese province seeks cooperation with Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, December 10, 2015, Asia-Plus – Senior representatives of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) yesterday received a delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Yunnan Province of China.

According to the Tajik CCI press center, the two sides discussed state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, road building, tourism, education, business, industry, and pharmaceutics.

A special attention was reportedly paid to establishment of bilateral cooperation between the business communities and CCIs of Tajikistan and Yunnan Province.

Representatives of Tajik CCI briefed Chinese guests on economic and investment potential of Tajikistan and outlined sectors like energy, mining, non-ferrous metallurgy, transportation, light and food industries, housing, and mechanical engineering, as areas which could drive the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Yunnan Province.

They also informed Chinese guests of privileges given to foreign investors in Tajikistan.

The sides also discussed issues related to signing of agreement between CCIs of Tajikistan and Yunnan Province and organization of an exhibition of goods of Yunnan Province in Tajikistan.  

Yunnan is a province of the People”s Republic of China, located in the far southwest of the country.  It spans approximately 394,000 square kilometers and has a population of 45.7 million (2009).  The capital of the province is Kunming, formerly also known as Yunnan. The province borders Vietnam, Laos and Burma.

A main source of wealth lies in Yunnan’s vast mineral resources and mining is the leading industry in Yunnan. Yunnan has proven deposits of 86 kinds of minerals in 2,700 places.  More than 150 kinds of minerals have been discovered in the province.   

Yunnan is one of the major production bases of copper, lead, zinc, tin and aluminum in China.  The electricity industry is another important economic pillar of Yunnan, which plays a key role in the West-East Electricity Transmission Project.
