Ancient coin smuggling to Turkey stopped at Dushanbe airport

DUSHANBE, April 12, 2016, Asia-Plus – Customs officers at Dushanbe International Airport have warded off an attempt of smuggling ancient coins to Turkey.

According to the press center of the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan, Tajik national A.R. has attempted to smuggle a batch of ancient coins to Turkey with help of an employee of Dushanbe International Airport.

He reportedly attempted to smuggle 11 coins, 44 rings, 3 pendants, 8 bracelets, 21 chains and some other wares having historical and cultural value.  The wares were to have been taken from Tajikistan to Turkey, the source said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained smuggler and his accomplice and an investigation is under way.
