DUSHANBE, March 11, Asia-Plus  – A large amount of heroin has been intercepted by officers from the counternarcotics agency in the Khatlon province.

According to the Drug Control Agency (DCA), when conducting an operation on the highway from Qurghon Teppa to Dushanbe, their officers on March 9 found some eight kilograms of heroin in a car belonging to the 20-year-old resident of Khatlon’s Danghara district.

The driver and his passengers were detained on suspicion of having been involved in drug pushing.  Criminal proceedings have been instituted against them and an investigation is under way.

Another operation carried out by the drug control officers in Dushanbe on March 7 led to the arrest of the 26-year-old local woman.  When searching her apartment, the drug control officers found a package of narcotic drug that tested positive to cannabis weighing some 3 kilograms.

The preliminary investigation has established that her relative living in the area bordering on Afghanistan brought the drugs to Dushanbe.  Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the woman and her relative has been put on a police wanted persons list.
