DUSHANBE, May 6, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s migration authorities jointly with law enforcement and security agencies are conducting an operation, dubbed

, in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
According to the migration service agency, the operation, which was launched on April 20 and will run through May 20, aims to discover channels of illegal migration and tighten control over stay of foreign nationals and stateless persons in the region.
Last month, they reportedly inspected central markets in Khorog and administrative centers of GBAO’s districts as well as places of residence of foreigners, offices of international organizations, companies and institutions at which foreign nationals are working.
In all, 91 foreign nationals have reportedly been checked, including 21 citizens of Kyrgyzstan, 25 citizens of Afghanistan, 17 citizens of Turkey, 16 citizens of Serbia, four citizens of Moldova, two citizens of the United States, two citizens of the United Kingdom, two citizens of japan, and two citizens of India.
Four foreign nationals were implicated in violating rules of staying in the region, and administrative action was imposed upon them; one Afghan national was fined 1,600 somoni and one Moldova national was fined 800 somoni, the migration service agency said.
