DUSHANBE, May 17, 2016, Asia-Plus — According to the Migration Service of the Ministry of Labor, Migration, and Employment of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan, a total of 209,788 labor migrants, including almost 27,000 women, have left Tajikistan over the first four months of this year seeking better employment opportunities, which is 10 percent less than in the same period last year.
In all, 271,151 people have returned to the country over the same four-month period. 86,000 Tajik labor migrants, including 9,500 women, have returned home over the report period.
The reduction in labor migration is reportedly due to the new regulations for entrance into the Russian Federation on International Passports from January 1, 2015, and amendments in the existing Russian Federation legislation on the activities of labor migrants from foreign countries.
Over the report period, Tajik seasonal workers have traveled primarily to Russia but also to neighboring Kazakhstan. More than 4,000 Tajik labor migrants have reportedly traveled to Kazakhstan in January-April this year.
