DUSHANBE, June 22, 2016, Asia-Plus – Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) today ratified an agreement between Tajikistan, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Trust Fund Program on Adaption of Small Farms to Climate Change on financing the Livestock and Pasture Development Project.

Speaking at the session, Deputy Finance Minister, Jamshed Nourmuhamamdiyon, noted the project provided for allocation of 24 million U.S. dollars for development of pastures in some districts of the Kulob region of the Khatlon province during the period from 2016 to 2022.

The Livestock and Pasture Development Project will work in selected districts of the Khatlon province.  It expects to benefit some 22,400 poor households from 100 villages, and will target: smallholder livestock farmers; private veterinary service providers and small-scale entrepreneurs with the potential to provide services to smallholder farmers; and woman-headed households and women belonging to poor households.

The project’s development objective is to increase the nutritional status and incomes of targeted households by sustainably enhancing livestock productivity.

In particular, the project will focus on: institutional development; livestock and pasture development; and income generation for women.
