In the city of Shreveport, located in the American state of Louisiana, eight children fell victim to a shooting orchestrated by an unnamed man on the morning of Sunday, April 19. Two more people were injured, reports NBC News on its website, citing Shreveport police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene following reports of a domestic conflict and discovered that the shooting occurred around 5 a.m. local time in several locations across the city — two houses located on the same block and a third nearby in the same area, where one of the victims attempted to hide after the shooting began, according to a police representative’s statement.
According to Bordelon, eight children aged from 1 to 14 years old were killed. Two more people were injured.
The attacker hijacked a vehicle to flee the scene but was shot by the police during the pursuit, the report states.
The motives of the attacker remain unknown. It is also reported that some of the deceased children were related to him.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux described the incident as possibly the most terrible tragedy in the city’s history and noted that all residents mourn together with the families of the victims.
