DUSHANBE, July 7, 2016, Asia-Plus – Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda paid a working visit to the northern Sughd province on July 4-5.

According to the Prime Minister Secretariat, the purpose of the visit was for the prime minister to get acquainted with the process of mitigation of effects of floods and mudslides in the region.

Rasoulzoda, in particular, got acquainted with the pace of construction ne residential building for the flood victims in the Khalifa Hasan jamoat, Panjakent district.

Mudslides caused by heavy rains reportedly damaged more than 15 homes in the Khalifa Hasan jamoat.  Construction of new houses fr the victims of floods and mudslides should be completed by August 1 this year.

During the visit, the prime minister also got acquainted with the process of mitigation of effects of floods and mudslides in some villages of Ayni and Asht districts.   

We will recall that mudslides caused by heavy rains have killed three people in Sughd province.

Two residents of the village of Revad in the Ayni district — 41-year-old Lola Tuighunova and her 18-year-old son, Ismat Rustamov — were killed by mudslides on May 9.

The mudslides also killed Toshboi Khujamqulov, a 56-year-old resident of the village of Shurcha in the Panjakent district.

The mudslides have damaged numerous homes, major infrastructure, and municipal buildings in the region.

Heavy rains in Tajikistan caused floods and mudslides in May that damaged homes and led to the evacuation of hundreds of people across the country.

Thus, the floods damaged more than 1,000 homes overnight in several villages near the capital, Dushanbe.  Hundreds of people have been evacuated from the area.

Floods and mudslides were reported in several other districts across the country.
