DUSHANBE, July 18, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajik authorities have tightened security measures at airports.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon reportedly signed a decree on tightening security measures at airports at the beginning of this month.

The State Committee for National Security (SCNS) and other law enforcement agencies of Tajikistan are ordered to take additional measures to provided security at country’s airports and aircraft.

The SCNS will conduct operations to prevent terrorist acts, seizure of aircraft and airport buildings, hostage taking and other organized crimes like smuggling, trafficking in explosives, weapons, ammunitions and drugs.  The security agency will also periodically conduct anti-terrorist training exercises at airports and aircraft.

The SCNS together with relevant ministries and agencies and their offices in the regions are ordered to prepare and implement the plan of measures and joint measures to prevent illegal interference in civil aviation for each airport.

We will recall that Dushanbe International Airport (DIA) tightened security measures in late June after Istanbul airport attack.  A triple suicide bombing and gun attack killed 42 people and wounded 239 people at Istanbul”s main airport on June 28.

Only passengers with tickets are now allowed to enter the terminal at Dushanbe international airport while those seeing off and meeting passengers are prohibited from entering the terminal.
