DUSHANBE, August 8, 2016, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan is expected to receive the first tranche of the budget support loan from Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) next month.
Issues related to providing the budget support loan to Tajikistan were discussed here last week at meetings of Dmitry Pankin, Chairman of EDB”s Management Board, with Tajik Prime minister Qohir Rasoulzoda and Tajik Finance Minister Abdusalom Quroboniyon.
Pankin paid a working visit to Tajikistan from August 3 to August 5, according to the EDB press service.
The Council of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD had earlier approved a US$40 million loan to support Tajikistan’s budget. The loan will be provided in two tranches – US$20 million each.
The meetings reportedly also focused on issues related to rehabilitation of the Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Tajikistan.
Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) is an international financial organization founded by Russia and Kazakhstan in 2006. The members of the Bank are Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Tajikistan and Belarus (2010). Other states or international organizations can become members by joining the Agreement Establishing the EDB. The Bank has authorized capital in exceeds US$1.5 billion, which was formed of contributions by its member states: Russia (US$1billion), Kazakhstan (US$500 million), Armenia (US$100,000), Tajikistan (US$500,000) and Belarus (US$15 million). The authorized capital may be increased by resolution of the Bank’s Council. The Bank has the status of an international organization, and is subject to international law.
