The next round of bilateral political consultations between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan in Dushanbe on November 9.
According to the Tajik MFA information department, the Tajik side was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmadsharif Haqdod while the Russian delegation was headed by Grigory Karasin, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
The two sides reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.
They also exchanged views on the current situation in Central Asia and issues related to regional security.
While in Dushanbe, Karasin also held talks with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov. The two reportedly noted with satisfaction the dynamic development of relations between Tajikistan and Russia and discussed priorities of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
Karasin reportedly arrived in Dushanbe on November 9 on a two-day visit.
Grigory Karasin is a career diplomat, a State Secretary, and a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Karasin graduated from the Institute of Oriental Languages at Moscow State University in 1971, and went on to work in various diplomatic posts in the central offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and abroad.
From March 2000 to June 2005, Karasin was the Ambassador of Russia to the United Kingdom, and returned to Moscow in June 2005 to take up the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; since October 2005 also a State Secretary. He holds both positions to this day.
Karasin is in charge for relations with the CIS nations and compatriots living abroad.
