DUSHANBE, January 15, Asia-Plus  — The school winter holidays will not be extended, Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.  

According to him, the government has refused education ministry’s application for extending the winter holidays in connection with cold weather.  The minister said that the government had justified the decision by saying that extension of the winter holidays could affect educational process.

Rahmonov noted that the school winter holidays will be probably extended only in the event if the more cold weather sets in.  “Heads of cities and districts have been ordered to take adequate measure to provide heating to all educational facilities,” the minister said. 

According to the Ministry of Education (MoE), at present 3,810 general schools with totaling 1,690,585 pupils function in Tajikistan.
