Eight persons were killed and at least 17 others injured on March 11 as a truck with some 30 people aboard crashed into a tree at high speed in the Romit Jamoat that is subordinate to Vahdat Township.

According to the Interior Ministry’s website, the accident took place afternoon not far from the Romit Jamoat’s cemetery after the funeral of a resident of Vahdat Township.  

People were reportedly returning from the funeral ceremony when the truck’s brakes failed and it crashed into a tree at high speed.  

Six persons died on the spot, while two others died in a hospital.  Seventeen other people who sustained various injuries are currently in a hospital. 

Criminal proceedings have been instituted and an investigation is under way.
