DUSHANBE, December 28, Asia-Plus – Members of the Dushanbe city legislature (Majlis) have discussed Dushanbe’s economic results in 2007 and endorsed the city budget for 2008.
The 12th session of the Dushanbe legislature, presided over by Dushanbe mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, was held on December 27.
Addressing the session, Ubaidulloyev noted that Dushanbe has produced a total of 367.6 million somonis worth of industrial goods in January-November 2007. Compared to January-November 2006 the index of the volume of production of industrial goods has amounted to 127.93 percent.
Over the report period, the Tajik capital has produced 100 million somonis’ worth of consume goods, which is 15.5 million more than in January-November 2006.
Wage debts in the Dushanbe industrial sector have been repaid by October 1, 2007, and in October 2007 a monthly wage in the industrial sector averaged 250.62 somonis, which 40.4 percent more than in October 2006.
In the meantime, 62 industrial enterprises failed to reach the 2006 level. Moreover, 15 enterprises were not in operation in 2007 and as a result of this, the city budget received 290 million somonis less.
As of December 1, 2007, 2 million somonis worth of unrealized output has amassed in warehouses, the mayor said.
Ubaidulloyev said that an overall space of 33,545.5 square meters in residential buildings had been made available in Dushanbe in January-November 2007, which is 5.9 percent more than in the same period of last year. “However, it is not enough, because with annual population growth rated at 2.3 percent we have to make available additional more than 170,000 square meters,” the mayor stressed.
On the public transport services, Ubaidulloyev pointed to the necessity of establishing new types of associations for private passenger transport.
The mayor also noted that the rate of collection of funds from the public and enterprises for natural gas has been low. As of December 1, 2007, the Dushanbe natural-gas debts have amounted to 86,431,200 somonis, and the public accounts for 86.1 percent of this amount.
On the budget for 2008, the mayor said that it will stand at 234.1 million somonis, which is 90 percent more than this year’s budget. The 2008 budget, in particular, projects expenditure of 44,886,100 somonis in the education sector, 24,316,600 somonis in the health sector, and 118.5 million somonis in housing and communal services.
