On April 29, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, a government meeting of the Republic of Tajikistan was held. The meeting reviewed the results of the socio-economic development of the country for the first quarter of 2026 and set the tasks for the rest of the year.
The economy maintained high growth
During the speech, the head of state noted that despite external challenges, the national economy grew by 8 percent in the first quarter. The main drivers were industry, agriculture, investments, trade, and services.
The volume of industrial production increased by 14 percent, agriculture by 8 percent, investments in fixed capital by 34 percent, paid services by 8.5 percent, and trade turnover by 22 percent.
Transportation indicators also increased: freight transportation rose by 14 percent and passenger transportation by 11 percent. Inflation was at 1.2 percent, which is below the level of the same period last year.

Tasks set for protecting the domestic market
The President emphasized the need to maintain macroeconomic stability, protect the domestic market, and reduce the impact of external factors on the country’s economy.
The government, ministries, and departments have been instructed to take timely measures to prevent external risks, ensure the rational use of resources, develop domestic competitive production, and reduce dependence on imports.
Budget revenues exceeded
By the end of the first quarter, the revenue part of the state budget was executed at 108.3 percent. More than 16.7 billion somoni were received into the budget.
At the same time, Emomali Rahmon drew attention to the increase in tax arrears and instructed the Ministry of Finance, the Tax Committee, and the Customs Service to take urgent measures to reduce it.

Investments and the banking system
There are 87 state investment projects being implemented in the country with a total value of 51.6 billion somoni. However, the President noted delays in several areas, including energy, irrigation, and the construction of educational facilities.
The head of state instructed to strengthen control over the implementation of projects, intensify the attraction of direct foreign investments, and expand cooperation with international partners.
The National Bank and credit organizations have been instructed to take measures to reduce interest rates on loans, expand business access to financing, and strengthen the stability of the national currency.
Digitalization declared a priority
The President called digitalization a requirement of the time and an essential condition for the sustainable development of the country.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has been instructed to create a unified digital platform for monitoring strategic documents using artificial intelligence. Also, state structures were instructed to ensure the recognition of electronic documents and eliminate duplicative procedures.

Food security and agriculture
Emomali Rahmon called ensuring food security a strategically important task.
Responsible bodies have been instructed to conduct timely spring and repeated sowing works, effectively use land, implement modern agrotechnologies, develop livestock, increase food production, and reduce dependence on imports.
It was also instructed to improve the ameliorative condition of lands and rationally use water resources.
Export and trade balance
The country’s foreign trade turnover in the first quarter reached 2 billion 676 million dollars, increasing by 12.8 percent. However, the trade balance remains negative at 1 billion 648 million dollars.
In this regard, the relevant departments have been instructed to increase the export of processed products with high added value, expand foreign markets, and develop domestic production.

Education, medicine, and preparation for the independence anniversary
The President also analyzed the state of education and healthcare sectors. Tasks were set to improve the quality of education, develop the preschool sector, equip schools with laboratories, eliminate the shortage of medical personnel, and develop the pharmaceutical industry.
Special attention was given to beautification works in honor of the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan. According to the meeting, the plan of creative works was completed by 106.7 percent, but there are delays in some cities and districts.
Meeting outcomes
As a result of the meeting, several strategic documents were reviewed and approved, including the Communication Development Strategy until 2040, programs for the development of the civil service, and the modernization of educational infrastructure.
In conclusion, Emomali Rahmon instructed all government bodies to ensure the unconditional implementation of previously given instructions and to intensify preparations for the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence.
