Tajik air carriers have reportedly raised passenger fares on flights from Russia to Tajikistan in connection with mass return of Tajik labor migrants to Tajikistan to celebrate Eid al-Fitr (an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting).

Tajik air carriers have raised passenger fares on the routes from Russia to Tajikistan on average by 20 percent.

Thus, a ticket for the flight from Moscow to Dushanbe now costs 2,640 somoni, while the cost of the passenger fare from Dushanbe to Moscow is 2,190 somoni.

A round-trip ticket on the route from Dushanbe to St. Petersburg now costs 5,000 somoni.  The cost on one-way ticket on this route is 2,470 somoni.

The cost on one-way ticket on the route from Dushanbe to Yekaterinburg is 1,980 somoni, while the round-trip ticket on this route is 3,960 somoni.

Some sources say the demand for passenger fares from Russia to Tajikistan is expected to decrease after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Meanwhile, Tajik air carriers usually lower passenger fares on flights from Dushanbe to Russia cities in late summer and autumn.

The introduction of the new rates is connected with a seasonal decrease in passenger traffic from Dushanbe to Russian cities and seasonal increase in passenger traffic from Russia to Dushanbe.

Tajik labor migrants staying in the Russian Federation usually return home in late summer and the autumn, and therefore the demand for tickets on the routes from Russian cities to Dushanbe increases during this season.  In order to avoid losses and attract passengers Tajik air carriers lower prices of air tickets on the flights to Russia in late summer and autumn.
