Tajikistan plans to increase the volume of its gross domestic product (GDP) next year by 13.6 percent or 8.038 billion somoni, a source in the Tajik government told Asia-Plus today morning.

According to him, the block of economics-related agencies, including parts of the president’s office and ministries, projects GDP rising 13.6 percent in a year to December 31, 2018, reaching 66.866 billion somoni.

The country’s GDP for this year is expected to stand at 58.910 billion somoni, which is 9.4 percent more compared to the last year.  In 2016, Tajikistan’s GDP stood at little more than 53.828 billion somoni.

Meanwhile GDP for 2019 is projected to stand at 73.401 billion somoni, and GDP for 2020 is projected to stand at 82.713 billion somoni, the source said.

The block of economics-related agencies reportedly projects inflation standing at 7.0 in 2018 and at 6.8 percent in 2019-2020.

The block of economics-related agencies forecast that the exchange rate of the U.S. dollar against the Tajik national currency, the somoni, will be 1:9 in 2018, 1:9.4 in 2019 and 1:10 in 2020.

The block of economics-related agencies is reportedly tasked to submit the draft law on the national budget for 2018 and the projected budgetary indicators for 2019-2020 for consideration to the government by September 20, 2017.
