Head of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan, Dr. Khudoberdi Kholiqnazar, will participate in an international conference entitled “Central Asia – Priority of Uzbekistan’s Foreign Policy” that will take place in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, on August 11.

According to the Uzbek Embassy in Dushanbe, the conference is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, UNDP Office in Uzbekistan and Office of Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

The conference that is expected to bring together Uzbek MPs, representatives of Uzbek ministries and research centers, experts from Central Asia’s nations, representatives of diplomatic missions active in Tashkent as well as journalists will discuss issues related to the modern regional policy of Uzbekistan and its approaches to problems of providing security and sustainable development in the Central Asian region.

Recall, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in February this year initiated the Strategy for the Further Development of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021.

The strategy covers five main priorities: improvement of state construction, judicial and legal system, economic liberalization, development of the social sphere, and implementation of active foreign policy.

The first four priorities were connected mostly with internal politics.  The fifth priority for 2017-2021 concerned the security and foreign policy of Uzbekistan.  In particular, implementing a balanced and constructive foreign policy, creating a security belt around Uzbekistan, achieving stability, and maintaining friendly relations with its neighboring countries have been identified as the main particularities of this priority.
