The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide 50 million U.S. dollars to support Tajikistan’s national budget, ADB President Takehiko Nakao noted at a press conference in Dushanbe on October 27.
ADB President Takehiko Nakao held a press conference together with the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Nematullo Hikmatullozoda following the 16th Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Ministerial Conference.
President Nakao noted that Tajikistan would receive that money already in November. Half of the amount will be grants and another half will be preferential loans.
Speaking at the press conference, the Tajik minister of economic development and trade noted that the government had fulfilled all the conditions required for receiving that money.
According to him, the conditions, in particular, concerned investment climate reforms program, institutional improvement of the process of supporting initiatives in the fields of investment, entrepreneurship, simplification of banking procedures, access to finances and so forth.
“All these conditions have been fulfilled and we will receive budgetary support soon,” Hikmatullozoda noted.
Tajikistan joined ADB in 1998. The Bank is the largest development partner in Tajikistan in terms of its lending volume. To date, ADB has approved over $1.5 billion in concessional loans, grants, and technical assistance to the country.
