On Thursday November 9, President Emomali Rahmon visited the Safed-Dara ski resort in the Varzob district to get acquainted with the process of construction of new facilities there, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Grounds for paintball and zipline as well as riding site have been built at the resort this year.  6.5 million somoni has been spent for construction works and creation of additional infrastructure, the website says.

Besides, a zoo is expected to open at the Safed-Dara ski resort in the future.  The website says rare animals, including lions, monkeys, kangaroos, tigers, yaks and ostriches will be delivered to the Safed-Dara zoo.

Meanwhile, the head of state reportedly ordered to build a 5-kilometer skiing track in a height of 3,100 meters above sea level that will allow conducting winter sports competitions, according to the website.

Recall, an official reopening of the rehabilitated Safed-Dara tourism and ski resort took place on January 7, 2016.  The resort has an indoor pool, a fitness room, a SPA salon, a skating rink, sports and children’s grounds, a cinema hall, two conference halls, shops.

The complex was reportedly rehabilitated under support of the Trade Representative of Tajikistan in the United Kingdom Shamsullo Sohibov, who was elected to head the Winter Sports Association of Tajikistan.

Shamsullo Sohibov is a son-in-law of the incumbent President Emomali Rahmon; he is reportedly married to Rahmon’s third daughter Rukhshona Rahmonova.

As it had been reported earlier, the State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) announced an open tender for sale of the tourist and ski complex Safed-Dara in November 2015.  The initial price for the resort was 1.92 million somoni.  The tender results were supposed to be announced on December 14, 2015, but GosKomInvest had not done that.

The Safed-Dara ski resort is located in the Varzob district, 70 kilometers north of Dushanbe.  It was officially opened in 1976.
