DUSHANBE, November 10 – Iran”s Energy Minister, his accompanying delegation, and Tajik officials on Friday visited construction process of Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant, being constructed by Iran in southern part of Tajikistan.
Managers and technicians of Sangtuda-2 Project during the visit elaborated on it for the audience, including the ministers of Energy, Industries, and Transportation of Tajikistan, head of that country”s Electricity Company, Tajikistan”s Ambassador to Tehran, and the care taker of Iran”s Embassy in Tajikistan.
The Iranian Energy Minister Said Parviz Fattah during a joint meeting with Tajik officials at the workshop of Sangtuda-2 power plant, exchanged viewpoints on how to provide the facilities needed for faster completion of the power plant, asking for concerned Tajik officials” constant cooperation with the technicians in charge of the executive affairs of the project.
Fattah arrived in Tajikistan”s capital city, Dushanbe, on Thursday evening, atop a delegation, to meet Tajik officials and survey the progress of the projects pursued by Iranians in that country. This is his third visit of Tajikistan in past two years.
Sang-Ttuda-2 is one of the major projects of Tajikistan, being constructed relying on Iran”s investment and cooperation over Tajikistan”s southern Vakhsh River.
Based on reached agreements with the Iranian Government, the Iranian engineering companies are commissioned to complete Sangtuda power plant by the year 2011, but the Tajik officials wish it could be put to use by 2010, due to sever energy problems they are already engaged with.
The 220 mega watt Sangtuda-2 power plant is being constructed relying on Iran”s 230 million US dollar investment at a 110 kilometer distance to the southeast of Dushanbe.
A part of this power plant”s electricity would be transited to Iran, in accordance with a reached agreement.
The executive engineering firm working over the project is Iran”s Sangab Company.
Iran”s Energy Minister Parviz Fattah said during his Friday visit of the project that the construction of Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant is a symbol of the two countries” good level of cooperation in economic and technological fields.
He added at a press conference at project site, “The Iranian engineers pursuing this project are working really fast, to an extend that relying on their severe work and the close cooperation of Tajikistan”s Government, today we are going to click Phase Two of this infrastructure project.”
Fattah added, “During this visit we noticed that everything is being pursued exactly on time, based on the project”s previously presented work map.”
Referring to the Tajik Government”s request for speedier pursuing of the project, the Iranian Energy Minster said, “Simplifying some possible parts of the dam, and fast provision of the required facilities can help the Iranians deliver the project to the Tajik officials before the scheduled time.”
He said, “Both the dam type, and the power plant type chosen for Sangtuda-2, are the ones we are quite familiar with, thanks to our engineers” experience over newly built dams and power plants in Iran.”
A Russian engineering firm is commissioned to construct Tajikistan”s Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant at a spot near to Sangtuda-1.
