Based on current data, Tajikistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) for the first quarter of this year was 12.350.1 billion somoni (equivalent to some 1.4 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 7.0 percent over the same period last year in comparable prices, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

Over the report period, Tajikistan’s GDP structure by sources of income included: sale and repair of automobiles and home appliances and consumer goods, hotels and restaurants – 21.9 percent(0.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year); industry and energy – 18.5 percent (1.2 percent decrease compared to the same period last year); agriculture, forestry, fishery and hunting – 5.1 percent (0.4 percent decrease); transportation, communications and warehousing – 14.2 percent (0/9 percent decrease); taxes – 13.5 percent (0.7 percent increase); construction – 7.3 percent (1.2 percent decrease); public management and mandatory social insurance – 7.5 percent (1.8 percent increase); financial activity, real estate transactions and commercial leasing – 0.7 percent (0.2 percent increase); education – 5.3 percent (0.3 percent decrease); health care and social work services – 2.5 percent (0.4 percent increase); utilizes, social and personal services – 3.5 percent (0.3 percent increase).
Tajikistan’s GDP for 2017 was some 61.1 billion somoni (equivalent to some 6.9 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 7.1 percent over 2016 in comparable prices.
Meanwhile, Tajikistan’s GDP is projected to reach 65.7 billion somoni in 2018.
In 219, the country’s gross domestic product is projected to stand at 73.5 billion somoni.
Recall, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on November 7, 2017 raised growth forecasts for the 37 countries in which it operates, saying that Tajikistan is expected to see GDP growth of 5.0 percent in 2018 respectively.
Tajik economic bloc ministries forecast that the somoni exchange rate against the U.S. dollar will slide to 9:1 in 2018, to 9.4:1 in 2019 and to 10:1 in 2020.
