BBC veterans train Tajik journalists in multimedia journalism

DUSHANBE, October 18, Asia-Plus  — An enlarged training seminar on multimedia journalism is going on in Dushanbe.

Rukhshona Olimova, media program coordinator, Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation, said that the seminar, staged by the Tajik Branch of OSI/AF, BBC local office, NGO Jadid Media and the International Foundation named after Muhiddin Olimpour, began on October 15 and will last till October 28.

During two weeks, former journalists of BBC, who now work as trainers with British media-organization Jadid Media, Baqir Muin, David Morton and Yasuman Amiri will conduct sessions on photojournalism, work with audio and video files, website design and further service of websites on the Internet.

According to Ms. Olimova, the seminar organizers have acted on the premise that many print and Internet media entered Tajikistan’s information space; however, both preparation of materials and illustration of the resources leave much to be desired because many local journalists have just superficial knowledge of multimedia journalism and new trends in this sphere.

The seminar participants include journalists, professional photographers, web-designers both from Dushanbe and the provinces.

Multimedia reporting is an emerging form of journalism worldwide, combining elements of text, audio, video and photography.  Digital technology, and the growth of the internet are radically changing people’s usage of the media, allowing them to access media on demand and publish their own multimedia material.
